The first official day of fall is less than a week away, and you know what that means, the cold weather will be upon us shortly. While you may not be thinking about your heater right now, in a few short weeks you might be. Are you prepared for the spike in your energy bill once that heater has to come on? If you have read our previous blog, then you already know that the Queens Mitsubishi Ductless System can save you lots of energy every single month, but there are a few things that you can do to say even more! The following is a list of ways that you can save even more with your ductless split system:
- Weatherize your home- Replace necessary caulking on your windows and doorways, and when you close your windows, make sure that you lock them. A locked window is closed tighter than an unlocked window, so less cold air will get in.
- Use the sun- Keep the shades open on your windows when the sun is up, and close them at night. This will naturally bring more heat in your home, and best of all, it's free!
- Turn your thermostat down- Did you know that you can save approximately 2% on your heating bill for every degree that you lower your thermostat? A good rule of thumb is to turn your thermostat down a bit while you are sleeping or out of the house.
- Seal any air leaks- The most common way to waste energy in a home is through air leaks. These leaks can be found around your pipes, outlets, fireplace, windows, vents, etc.
